Oops. I’d forgotten to act sick. I faked a cough. Then I made my voice sound raspy.

Mom shook her head. “You sound like you’re faking a sore throat.”

I rubbed my leg and said, “My leg hurts. I can’t run on the soccer field today.”

“You can sit on the sideline and watch the game with Mia and me. You need to support your team.”

If I sat with my mom and little sister at the game, Bolt would probably call me a wimp or a baby or a chicken. He might even call me all three names at once. He could call me a wimpy baby chicken or a chicken baby wimp or a baby chicken wimp.

Bolt’s mom might call me even worse names, like a super wimpy, weird little baby chicken butt.

“My leg feels better now,” I said. “I guess I have to play soccer today. I mean, I guess I get to play soccer today.”

Mom smiled. “Good.”

A few minutes later, my family ate breakfast together. Mom asked my sister Alexa, “Do you want to watch Zeke play soccer today?”

“I can’t watch any soccer games. I’m allergic,” Alexa replied.

“Allergic to what?” I asked her.

“Boredom,” she said.

“I’ll entertain you with Princess Sing-Along songs,” Mia said. She sang in a screechy voice, “It’s fun to go to the park, la la la. But don’t do it in the dark, la la la. If you cannot see your shoe, la la la, you might step in gross dog doo, la la la.”

“Princess Sing-Along Songs are annoying. Being annoyed is even worse than being bored,” Alexa said.

Mom, Mia and I went to the soccer field, leaving Alexa at home.
